The patron saint of Cesarò is Saint Calogerus, celebrated on 21 August. The saint, born in Chalcedon in 466 and who died on Monte Kronio in 561, was a hermit monk venerated as a wonder-worker by both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches; he is the patron of Naro and co-patron of Agrigento, besides dozens of other Sicilian towns, from Sciacca to Canicattì, from Favara to Mussomeli. In Cesarò the church of San Calogero is dedicated to him, next to the town's mother church.
Cesarò, the second-highest municipality in Sicily, stands in the Nebrodi Mountains in the stretch that includes the range's highest peak, Monte Soro, and Lakes Biviere and Maulazzo; its origins, probably a Norman fortification, predate the 13th century, though historical records remain scarce until the 17th century.
