On 24 August Lipari celebrates Saint Bartholomew, to whom the co-cathedral of 1094 inside the Castello is dedicated. The saint also appears on the town's coat of arms, at the gate of the towered castle.
Saint Bartholomew is the patron of Lipari and is celebrated on 24 August. The basilica co-cathedral is dedicated to him; it dates from 1094 and stands inside the Castello, the rock that overlooks the harbour.
The saint also appears on the town's coat of arms, which goes back to the early thirteenth century: shown at the gate of a battlemented castle with three towers, beneath the motto "Per troppo fedeltà porto corona" — for too much loyalty I wear a crown.
