The patron of Milazzo is Saint Stephen the protomartyr, solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday of September. The new cathedral is consecrated to him, built to a design by the architect Francesco Valenti from 1937 and opened for worship in 1951.
The co-patron is Saint Francis of Paola, celebrated on the first Sunday of May; two days later, usually the Tuesday, comes the Berrettella, that is, the cap the saint often wore during his stay in the town, between 1464 and 1467. From that stay there also remains the sanctuary dedicated to him, the only one in Sicily, built at his wish in those very years. More quietly, the town's protector, Saint Papinus the martyr, is celebrated on 17 and 28 June.
