On 20 August Scillato, a municipality of 627 inhabitants in the province of Palermo, celebrates its patroness Maria Santissima della Catena.
Scillato was born around its mills: water is not lacking here, and a mill is already mentioned in a document of 1156. The name of the place, Xillatum, appears at the end of the same century. The last one to grind, the Rasu mill, closed in the 1960s.
Today those mills are being restored to make a trail of the waters. The town stands on the first western spurs of the Madonie, below Monte dei Cervi, and was a hamlet of Collesano until 1961. In the church there is a small Madonna della Catena of the Gagini school; in the fields they grow the apricot and the blond orange that carry the town's name. There are 627 residents.
