The adjective was earned: «Generosa» was added by Frederick II, struck by the welcome he was given up here. For centuries it stayed a nickname, then in 1863 a royal decree put it into the official name.
Polizzi stands at 917 metres, inside the Madonie park, and under its houses there is everything: coins from Himera of the sixth century BC, a Hellenistic necropolis, the ruins of Roger's castle. The church of Sant'Antonio Abate was a mosque. In the gardens grows the badda bean, found nowhere else, and in the pastry shops the sfoglio, a cake filled with tuma cheese. There are 3,607 residents.

Polizzi Generosa celebrates Saint Gandolfo of Binasco on the third Sunday of September; the Franciscan friar, born in Binasco in 1200 or 1201, died precisely in Polizzi Generosa on 3 April 1260, where he is still venerated as the town's patron.
