The «Bagni» in the name promises no spa: it comes from the fief of the Daniele marquises, the lords of the Vagni. In that district, though, there really are ancient cisterns and basins, and some think of a staging post with baths, halfway along the road to Akrai.
The town is laid out on a grid, all the streets parallel: the exception is the Pizzumuru, the oldest quarter, where they run crooked. In Holy Week they sing u lamientu, the lament of the Passion handed down by voice and listed in the register of Sicilian intangible heritage; in September, for Saint Michael, the eight quarters run a palio with a donkey race. There are 7,186 residents.

On 29 September Canicattini Bagni celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel with the Palio di San Michele, involving the town's eight districts in contests and historical re-enactments.
Saffron rice, ragù with peas and caciocavallo inside a golden cone-shaped crust: in Catania it is masculine and pointed, and the quarrel with Palermo over the name is serious.
