The patron of Bevagna is Saint Vincent, who was the town's first bishop: the diocese of Bevagna is historically attested at the Lateran council of 487.
The word you hear most here, though, is «gaite»: that is what the quarters were called, a term dating from the Lombard period. There are four of them — San Giorgio, San Giovanni, Santa Maria and San Pietro — and they compete in the Mercato delle Gaite, the re-enactment that reconstructs daily life in the Middle Ages between 1250 and 1350, always held in the week between the last two Sundays of June; the accuracy of its reconstructions has earned it several acknowledgements from the academic world.
