The church of San Dionigi is the parish church of Collalbrigo, a hamlet of Conegliano, in the diocese of Vittorio Veneto; in the past it was known as the church of Santi Dionisio, Rustico ed Eleuterio. The village's first church depended on the parish church of San Pietro di Feletto: it became a curacy in 1533 and an independent parish in 1575. It was rebuilt a first time in 1585 and consecrated in 1690. On 29 June 1873 an earthquake reduced it to rubble; the following year work began on today's church, to a design by a certain Tirindelli. It was consecrated on 21 October 1894 by Bishop Sigismondo Brandolini Rota, when it was not yet quite finished: the façade dates from 1903, and the decoration was completed in 1924.
What to see
The gabled façade has a portal with a tympanum on two half-columns and an architrave with the inscription «S. Dionysio»; at the centre opens a rose window with polychrome glass. On the left part a plaque commemorates the fallen of Collalbrigo and of the nearby locality of Parè. The bell tower, erected in 1855 to a design by the engineer Da Riz, stands on the right side, in the stretch of square that separates the church from the rectory: at the top it has a crenellation with stone spheres, and the belfry opens with two-light windows with small balustrades.
The interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by large round arches, with a barrel vault decorated by Luigi Salvadoretti. On the pendentives of the dome, otherwise unadorned, are frescoed the four Evangelists by Vittorio Casagrande. In the apse is the seventeenth-century altarpiece by Silvio Sanfiori, with St Dionysius enthroned between Saints Rusticus and Eleutherius, Blessed Giuliana da Collalto and St Augusta.
Visiting
Opening and Mass times should be checked with the parish of Collalbrigo.
Our editors' tip
Two things are older than the walls that hold them: the seventeenth-century altarpiece in the apse and the baptismal font, which dates from 1681. There is also the organ, built by the Paduan firm Pugina.
