The patron saint of Sasso di Castalda is Saint Roch, celebrated on 16 August, in the church dedicated to him, next to the mother church of the Immaculate Conception. The town's name, documented in the Middle Ages in the Latin form Petra Castalda, changed over time into today's Sasso di Castalda.
The town is today also known for the Ponte alla Luna, inaugurated on 6 April 2017: a complex of two single-span suspension bridges, 95 and 300 metres long respectively, with a maximum height of about 120 metres, which has become a major tourist draw for the area, alongside freely accessible trails and via ferratas nearby.
