In Cisterna's territory blooms what the New York Times called the most romantic garden in the world: Ninfa, the abandoned medieval town the Caetani family turned into an eden of roses, streams and ruins, open on counted dates that must be booked like a concert. The Caetani palace in the centre keeps its history.
Cisterna is hard memory too: in the 1944 battle after the Anzio landing, American Rangers were decimated here, and the rebuilt town bears a silver medal of valour. Among kiwi orchards and vineyards — this is Bellone wine country — Rome and the sea are both half an hour away.
