The patron of Moconesi is the Sacred Heart of Jesus, celebrated on the third Sunday of September. The parish church dedicated to him, in the main hamlet of Ferrada, was opened for worship on 12 September 1909, became the seat of an archpriestship on 14 November of that same year, and was consecrated on 28 February 1916 by the bishop of Chiavari, Monsignor Giovanni Gamberoni: the parish title, Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Margaret, was transferred to it from the earlier church of Santa Margherita in Moconesi Alto, the area's ancient primary parish seat since the 13th century.
Giovanni Colombo, grandfather of Christopher Columbus, was born in Moconesi, a memory the town still preserves today in the name of the hamlet of Terrarossa Colombo and in the «Cristoforo Colombo» football pitch at Ferrada. The municipal territory comprises, besides the village of Moconesi, the hamlets of Cornia, Dragonaria, Gallinaria, Gattorna, Pezzonasca and Santa Brilla, and is also home to the sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Guardia, in the hamlet of Gattorna.
