Many Genoese families bought land in the Prino valley, and the Doria left the people of Dolcedo an inheritance that can be neither eaten nor sold: the right to be treated free of charge in the hospitals of Genoa.
The great bridge over the Prino was built in 1262 by the Knights of Malta, to get across on their way to the far west of Liguria and to Piedmont. The rest was done by oil: when the Benedictines of Lérins brought the olive tree, water-driven mills were needed, and the houses came down from the hills to the streams. The population is 1,451.

Dolcedo celebrates Saint Thomas the Apostle on 21 December; the parish church dedicated to him was entrusted in 1103 to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Lérins, who spread olive cultivation in the area, giving its name to the ancient Terziere di San Tommaso.
