The patron saint of Dolcedo is Saint Thomas the Apostle, celebrated on 21 December. The parish church dedicated to him, in the main town, was built in the late Gothic style; in 1103 the Bishop of Albenga entrusted it to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Lérins, who spread olive cultivation in the area, an activity that progressively grew until its massive use around the 17th century. The church took on its present appearance after a sumptuous reconstruction, begun in 1717 and completed in 1738 by the architect Giacomo Filippo Marvaldi.
In 1161, Dolcedo freed itself from being a fief of the marquises of Clavesana and joined the Communitas of Porto Maurizio precisely under the name of Terziere di San Tommaso, together with the Terziere di San Giorgio di Torrazza and that of San Maurizio; in 1613 Genoa granted administrative autonomy to the Terziere di San Tommaso. The municipality also preserves the parish church of Sant'Agostino, in the hamlet of Lecchiore.
