The patron of Levanto is Saint Andrew, celebrated on 30 November in the parish church dedicated to him, in the town centre. Built in 1222 and enlarged during the 15th century, it is a notable example of Gothic architecture from eastern Liguria, with its characteristic façade of alternating bands of white marble and local serpentine. The five-nave interior holds various paintings and sculptures, including a 16th-century Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, a 14th-century black crucifix found in the Vallesanta area, and an Adoration of the Magi by the painter Andrea Semino; the church is also the main venue for the summer concerts of the Amfiteatrof Music Festival.
Of the town's medieval defences, the Porta dell'Acqua still survives today, set into a tower of the old town walls that once ran along the coast up to the round tower at the north-east corner.
