Colletorto celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 29 August, in the mother church whose portal depicts his severed head; the town is dominated by the Torre Angioina, whose construction tradition attributes to Queen Joan I of Naples.

The patron saint of Colletorto is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 29 August in the mother church dedicated to him: rebuilt in the 18th century, it preserves only the old bell tower of the previous building, while the finely worked portal architrave depicts the saint's severed head.

The town, first mentioned as Collis Tortis in 1241 in the Statute for the repair of castles of Frederick II of Swabia, and then as Collis Tortus in the Angevin registers of 1320, is dominated by the Torre Angioina: 25 metres tall, cylindrical in plan, rebuilt on a Norman fortification, its construction is traditionally attributed to the reign of Queen Joan I of Naples, though no documents confirm this hypothesis. The tower, restored after the 2002 earthquake, dominates the peak of the historic centre together with the marquis's palace and the mother church, with views over the Gargano mountains, Lake Lesina, the Adriatic Sea and the Tremiti Islands.
