The patron saint of Limosano is Saint Louis of Toulouse, celebrated on 19 August with the patronal feast. The town has medieval origins: it was built around a castle founded by the Lombards, when the territory was part of the gastaldate of Bojano, which later, during the 13th century, became the county of Molise.
The Castello Ducale, thought to have been built over an earlier Lombard stronghold around the 13th century, or at least around the same time as the church of San Francesco, was transformed over the centuries into a marquis's palace, so much so that today, set within a compact architectural context, it is difficult at first glance to tell it apart from the surrounding buildings. Limosano also preserves the church of Santa Maria Maggiore and that of Santo Stefano.
