Ceresole Alba

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,115 · Postal code: 12040

Since 1687 the commune's arms have carried a cherry tree, fruited red. The first record is older: in 1041 the emperor Henry III invested the bishop of Asti with the fief.

The village was destroyed in 1544, the year of the battle of Ceresole, and at the end of the seventeenth century the impoverishment of the area forced the last of the Roero of Ceresole to sell his lands and his palace: he died poor in 1707, in the hospital at Carmagnola. Fish ponds remain in the countryside, and in the one at cascina Gallina lotus flowers grow.
