Baldissero Torinese

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,783 · Postal code: 10020

In the Middle Ages the place was a hamlet called Baldicherium Cheriensium, dependent on Chieri. It broke away at the end of the seventeenth century: it was made a comune in 1694, and the fief went to Giuseppe Antonio Benso di Mondonio, who sold it on the following year. Of the whole medieval past, however, not one building is left standing.

What is worth seeing is of the eighteenth century: the parish church of Santa Maria della Spina, put up between 1717 and 1725, octagonal in plan and with a bare brick front. It was built by a surveyor whose name is not known, who took his cue from the basilica of Superga, close by and in those same years still a building site.
