Milo celebrates Saint Andrew on 30 November, in the mother church built with Etna lava stone; it was Duke Giovanni d'Aragona who wanted it, around 1340, briefly making Milo Sicily's summer political centre.

The patron saint of Milo is Saint Andrew, celebrated on 30 November, in the mother church, built with Etna lava stone.

It was Duke Giovanni d'Aragona who had the first church dedicated to Saint Andrew built, around 1340, amid the woods of Milo, assigning it a fief and ordering it to be a priory of the Church of Catania. Giovanni spent part of the summer at Milo, where the powerful of the time often came to meet him, so much so that the town occasionally took on the role of Sicily's summer political centre; he returned there in 1348 to escape the plague ravaging Catania, but the journey was not enough to save his life. The municipality's coat of arms, though lacking formal state grant, still recalls this history today with the red bars on Giovanni d'Aragona's gold field, the cross of Saint Andrew with the martyr's palm, and Etna's profile.

Between 1950 and 1951, Milo experienced the most dramatic episode in its history, when two eruptive vents opened at an altitude of 1,800 metres, forcing the inhabitants to take refuge in nearby towns: it was precisely in those terrible months that the idea of municipal autonomy began to take shape. The town today is also home to the amphitheatre named after the singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla, deeply tied to these places.
