The patron saint of Cerreto di Spoleto is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated at Pentecost. The town's castle was long contested between Church and Empire, suffering repeated damage, until in 1446 it was definitively brought under the rule of the Papal States; as the clashes eased, during the 16th century various watchtowers were decommissioned and turned into stone quarries.
The town preserves traces of its history in the church of the Santissima Annunziata, in that of Santa Maria Delibera, and in the church and convent of San Giacomo, as well as the Palazzo Bonifazi and the Palazzo Orlandini.
