The patrons of Città della Pieve are Saints Gervasius and Protasius, celebrated on 19 June. The co-cathedral bears their name, and in the apse, above the choir, hangs the panel in which they were painted by the town's most illustrious son: Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino (c. 1450-1523). It shows the Madonna between the protector saints Gervasius and Protasius, who hold two oriflammes with the old civic arms, and Saints Peter and Paul; in the chapels are works by his pupils.
Perugino also inspires the costumes of the some seven hundred participants in the historical parade that goes out on the second-to-last Sunday of August, when the Palio dei Terzieri and the Caccia del Toro are held: since 1973 a twelve-day re-enactment that ends with the archery contest between the terzieri of Borgo Dentro, Casalino and Castello.
