Ötzi – Archaeology Museum

📍 Bolzano, Trentin-Haut-Adige · 85/100

In September 1991 two hikers found a body on the Similaun ridge they thought recent: it was 5,300 years old. Ötzi, the Iceman, is the world's most studied natural mummy, and Bolzano's museum keeps him in a climate cell visible through a porthole, with his entire kit: the copper axe, bow, quiver, layered clothing, even the berries of his last meal.

The hyper-realistic reconstruction and the story of the arrow wound — a prehistoric murder mystery — close the visit.

Our tip: book online (queues are the norm) and allow two full hours: the details — therapeutic tattoos, the hay-stuffed shoe — are what you will not forget.
