Saint Nicholas of Bari and the Sant'Angelo Cave
📅 Every year, on 6 December
Lettomanoppello celebrates Saint Nicholas of Bari on 6 December, in the church dedicated to him.
Pescara is the smallest province in Abruzzo and the most densely populated, and its capital is the region's biggest city, which turns the local pattern on its head: elsewhere in Abruzzo there is far more land than there are people. Most of the province lies along the Val Pescara, the valley that runs down from the interior to the Adriatic. Its 46 municipalities are hemmed in by the provinces of Teramo to the north, Chieti to the south-east and L'Aquila to the south-west, with the sea to the north-east.
The city itself is best taken as a museum stop: the Museo delle genti d'Abruzzo, the Imago Museum, the Basilio Cascella civic museum and the Vittoria Colonna modern art gallery are all close together, as is San Cetteo cathedral. Montesilvano and Spoltore are the next largest towns after Pescara, and beyond them the names that keep coming up are Città Sant'Angelo, Loreto Aprutino and Penne.
