The patroness of Pontedassio is Saint Margaret of Antioch, celebrated on 20 July. The parish church dedicated to her, rebuilt to a design by Giovanni Battista Gandolfo in 1880, preserves traces of the earlier building at the base of its bell tower and, inside, a 1503 triptych by Luca Baudo da Novara; on the exterior façade a mosaic, whose original sketch belongs to the Gonan family, depicts the saint's martyrdom.
In 1824 the Agnesi family, born in the town, took over an old mill and started the pasta factory bearing their name, with four production sites within Pontedassio: in 1958 Vincenzo Agnesi founded, in the family home, a first museum space dedicated to pasta-making, with old machinery for producing spaghetti, later moved to the national pasta museum in Rome. In 1928 the suppressed municipalities of Bestagno, Villa Guardia and Villa Viani were merged into Pontedassio's territory.
