The patron of Cairo Montenotte is Saint Lawrence, celebrated on 10 August in the parish church dedicated to him, in the old town centre. It is first mentioned on 4 May 1190; it was enlarged after the 1630 plague to fulfil a vow made by the parishioners, completed in 1642. Inside it holds frescoes by Paolo Gerolamo Brusco, statues by Antonio Brilla and a crucifix by Anton Maria Maragliano; the church has been declared a national monument.
The town's calendar also keeps alive the costumed historical re-enactment Cairo Medioevale, from 5 to 10 August, in the very days leading up to the patronal feast, together with the Sagra della Tira, a July food event dedicated to the local dish: a small loaf of oven-baked bread filled with sausage meat, whose recipe has been handed down for three centuries.
