Carcare celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June; its 19th-century parish church holds a crucifix attributed to the celebrated Genoese sculptor Anton Maria Maragliano, in the town that was the birthplace of the Garibaldian writer Anton Giulio Barrili.

The patron saint of Carcare is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June. The parish church dedicated to him, in the main village, dates from the late 19th century and holds inside a crucifix attributed to Anton Maria Maragliano, among the most celebrated Ligurian wood sculptors.

Next to the mother church stands the church of Sant'Antonio, home to a library and the Ighinian Museum of Natural Sciences. Villa Maura, built in 1885 on commission from the Garibaldian Anton Giulio Barrili, was purchased in 1967 by the municipal authority, which set up there the civic library and, on the first floor, the museum of the Anton Giulio Barrili Study Centre, holding relics, everyday objects from the late 19th century and over 9,600 volumes and 17,000 letters of the writer's correspondence. Annexed to the First French Empire from 13 June 1805 until 1814, the town was included in the Department of Montenotte.
