The patron of Trofarello is Saint Roch, celebrated on 16 August in the chapel dedicated to him.
Trofarello was a fief held, from the administrative division introduced by the Lombards onward, by the Guaggoni or Vangioni family, later called Vagnone, counts and lords of Trofarello and Celle. The oldest document mentioning Trofarello as a specific territorial unit dates from 1228, at the time of Frederick II, and concerns precisely the donation of the county of Celle to the lords of Revigliasco and Trofarello, that is, the Vagnone. Of that lordship the medieval tower still stands today, part of the Vagnone castle complex, alongside the nearby castle of Rivera.
