The Reggia di Venaria is the Savoys' Versailles: built for Charles Emmanuel II's hunts and expanded by Juvarra with the Great Gallery — a tunnel of light among the most photographed images of European Baroque — it is UNESCO-listed and, since the great 2007 restoration, among Italy's most visited museum sites. The recreated gardens and the Stables with the royal barge complete the visit.
Before the gates, the old town designed to serve the court lives on cafés and shops along Via Mensa. Next door, La Mandria park fences woods and castles in one of the Po plain's largest protected areas.
