1339 — De Bello Canepiciano

📍 Volpiano · Turin · Piedmont

The re-enactment of the Canavese war: arms tournaments, historic procession and medieval market, every two years in October.

Every two years Volpiano goes back to 1339 and stages the war of the Canavese, which is the thing that actually happened to it: troops led by Pietro da Settimo, in the service of Marquis Giovanni II Paleologo of Monferrato, seized the castle and set out from here to conquer the Canavese.

The old centre is dressed in medieval style, with arms camps, crafts, a stable and areas for children. There is the historic procession with costumed figures, a market with craftsmen from Italy and from beyond the Alps, lectures and exhibitions, live music and food and wine trails; the team fencing tournament and the duels of the international Buhurt tournament are held at the Campo di Marte.

The eighth edition took place on 4 and 5 October 2025.
