The patron saints of Giuliana are Our Lady of the Audience and Saint Juliana of Ptolemais, virgin and martyr, celebrated on 3 September. The sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Udienza was created in the 18th century from the old church of the Carmine, itself heir to the older church of the Santissima Annunziata: buried inside are two locally venerated figures, Friar Simone Napoli da Calascibetta and Sister Glorietta Restivo.
The village, at about 750 metres above sea level in the southernmost part of the province of Palermo, is dominated by the Frederician castle, which, perched on the Rocca, once formed an exceptional lookout over the broad valley all the way to the sea of the Agrigento coast: restored by the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage of Palermo, it was reopened on 29 June 1997 for the eighth centenary of the birth of Frederick II of Swabia. Giuliana's urban identity developed from the 14th century, when the town belonged first to the Ventimiglia and then to the Peralta family; in 1543 Emperor Charles V raised it to a marquisate, and in 1640 it passed from the Cordona to the Gioeni family, until the abolition of the feudal system in 1812.
