The patron saint of Poggiodomo is Saint Anthony of Padua, celebrated on the second-to-last Sunday of August. The town's main church, dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo, stands centrally in Piazza Martiri di Mucciafora and was built between the 17th and 19th centuries; in the upper part of the settlement stands instead the church of San Pietro, from the 14th-16th centuries, now closed to the public, which holds medieval frescoes including one of the earliest painted depictions of Saint Rita of Cascia.
The history of Poggiodomo is intertwined with that of the dominant towns in the area: it belonged to Spoleto from the 13th century and to Cascia from 1361, sharing the events that involved the surrounding castles. The municipality's three hamlets, Usigni, Roccatamburo and Mucciafora, are perfectly aligned along the mountain slopes, surrounded by dense, compact woods of manna ash and beech, a refuge for a great variety of wildlife.
