A white limestone monolith twenty-five metres tall planted at the beach's edge: Pizzomunno is Vieste's giant, and the legend of the fisherman petrified for love of Cristalda — set to music at Sanremo by Max Gazzè — is the Gargano's founding myth. Our tip: the classic photo is from the top of the Love Stairway in the old town; a swim at the giant's feet early in the morning, when Castello beach is half empty, is the right way to greet him.
