The patron of Alba is Saint Lawrence and his day falls on 10 August.
The month when the town fills up, though, is October. The White Truffle Fair was born in 1928, from an idea of Giacomo Morra, as a side event to the Grape Harvest Festival, and grew into a national occasion and, since 2007, an International Fair. Every year the organisers give the finest truffle to a distinguished guest: Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio and King Farouk of Egypt have been among them. On the first Sunday of October the Donkey Palio is run too, with the Joust of the Hundred Towers.
