The patron of Gattinara is Saint Peter, celebrated on 29 June. His church is the pieve of San Pietro Apostolo, the ecclesiastical and sacramental reference point for the towns of the area as far as Lozzolo and Roasio. The building was reworked from 1603 and entirely rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century; the neoclassical façade seen today dates from 1844, to a design by Pietro Delmastro.
But the town's main occasion is another: the grape festival, at the start of September, when taverns spring up all over Gattinara, cooking savoury dishes accompanied by Gattinara wine, the DOCG that gives the town its name.
