Teramo TE

Region: Abruzzo · 47 towns · Population: 306,349

Teramo is where Abruzzo ends and Marche begins: the northern edge of the province doubles as the regional border, next to the Ascoli Piceno area. It is the third largest province in Abruzzo, with 47 municipalities and just over 306,000 residents spread across a band of land running from the Adriatic inland, as far as the province of L'Aquila and the Lazio border. The provincial capital, also called Teramo, has fewer than 55,000 people.

Most visitors stay on the coast, home to the largest towns after the capital: Roseto degli Abruzzi and Giulianova, then Martinsicuro, Silvi and Pineto. Inland the scale drops quickly, from Atri and Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata down to villages of a few hundred people. Driving a few kilometres away from the seafront changes the trip entirely.
