Umbria was a single province until 1927, when it was split in two and the southern half was handed to Terni. It is the smaller half — roughly a third of the region's area and population — and it holds 33 municipalities. The pecking order is unusually clear: apart from the provincial capital, only Orvieto, Narni and Amelia have more than ten thousand residents, and everything else is a village.
Two sights carry the visitor traffic. Orvieto's cathedral is worth the trip on its own, and the Marmore Falls, inside the municipal territory of Terni, are the natural counterweight — one in stone, one in water. With a spare day, Narni and Amelia are the ones to add: small towns you can walk end to end in a morning, in a province where nothing is far from anything else.

Guardea celebrates its ancient co-patrons Saint Caesarius, on 1 November, and Saint Peter, on 29 June, patrons of the parish church holding a precious silver reliquary with a bone fragment of Saint Caesarius, deacon and martyr.

Fabro celebrates Saint Martin on 11 November, with a 15-kilometre running race; in 1300, for the first Jubilee in history proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII, the castle of Fabro sent twenty foot soldiers to Rome alongside Orvieto's cavalry.

On 22 November Acquasparta celebrates Saint Cecilia in the church bearing her name, which holds the tomb of Federico Cesi, founder of the Accademia dei Lincei.

On 24 November Amelia celebrates Saint Firmina: in the cathedral the mayors of the whole district offer candles, and through the streets goes a procession recalling the statutes of 1346.
